Heyu - Home automation for GNU/Linux E-mail
Wednesday, 11 February 2009 22:06
Heyu a text-based program for remotely controlling lights and appliances in the home or officeThe CM17 is a little box about twice the size of your thumb, with two switches that send on and off commands via radio to household appliances. It's sold under the trade name "FireCracker", and it plugs into a serial port (the little 9-pin connector on most PC hardware). It draws its power from the port. No batteries required!Heyu is a program written for GNU/Linux and other Unix-like operating systems; it's designed primarily to use the X10 CM11A serial port interface. The CM11A will send remote control signals over the power lines to remote modules within your house. Other models are supported, e.g., auxiliary input is supported from MR26A, W800RF32A, and RFXCOM X10 RF receivers for X10, X10 Security, RFXSensor, RFXMeter, Oregon, and DigiMax RF signals (subject to the capabilities of the receiver) including the inexpensive and popular CM17A "Firecracker" module (figure in this article). HEYU can be run from cron to automate lights, sprinklers and so on, or can store macros and timers in the CM11A memory for standalone operation. Arbitrary commands and scripts can be launched based on X10 and RF signals and the state of the system. Heyu is a command line program, but there is a front-end like domus.Link. Note: Heyu is licensed free of charge for non-commercial distribution and for personal and internal business use only. For more information about this type of license click here.
